Fuel Crisis Sparks Concern in Jharkhand as People Question Lack of Public Transport Alternatives

Ranchi: Growing fuel shortages and rising petrol and diesel prices have triggered concern among residents in Jharkhand, with many questioning how they are expected to reduce vehicle use in a state where public transport options remain limited. The reactions come after Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to rely more on public transport, avoid unnecessary travel and adopt a lifestyle based on limited resources.

However, people in Jharkhand say the situation on the ground is very different from that of major metropolitan cities. Residents argue that facilities such as metro rail services do not exist in the state, making private vehicles essential for daily life.

In Ranchi and several other parts of Jharkhand, fuel shortages have started affecting normal routines. Long queues are being seen at petrol pumps, while some outlets have reportedly run out of stock. Residents say travelling for work, business, education, medical emergencies and other essential needs has become increasingly difficult amid the uncertainty.

People also point out that public transport infrastructure in Jharkhand remains weak compared to larger cities. Bus services are irregular in many areas, and in rural regions, private vehicles often serve as the only reliable mode of transport. As a result, rising fuel prices and supply disruptions are directly impacting both household expenses and everyday mobility.

One resident said, “If work is important, people have no option but to use their vehicles. Jharkhand does not have metro services, and bus connectivity is also poor in many places. Without fuel, daily life will come to a halt for ordinary citizens.”

Residents have urged the government to focus not only on public appeals but also on ensuring uninterrupted fuel supply and controlling rising prices. Many believe the crisis is placing an additional burden on middle-class families, daily commuters and small business owners.

Experts warn that if fuel supply issues are not resolved soon, the impact could spread further across transportation, local markets and routine life in the coming days. For now, people across Jharkhand are closely watching the government’s next move to address the growing crisis.
