Ranchi: Residents in Ranchi are facing major inconvenience while trying to update their Aadhaar cards, with long queues being reported daily at the Aadhaar Seva Kendra near Patel Chowk. People are arriving as early as 6 a.m. to update details such as mobile numbers, addresses, names, and other information linked to their Aadhaar cards.
According to local sources, the centre has introduced a special “slip system” to manage the growing crowd. Under this arrangement, people are first issued a token slip, while the actual Aadhaar update process is carried out the following day. In many cases, residents spend one day just securing their turn and return the next day to complete the update.
People visiting the centre said they are being forced to wait for hours despite reaching early in the morning. Many applicants are travelling from distant areas, making the process even more exhausting. Residents have demanded better arrangements and an increase in the number of Aadhaar centres in the city.
One local resident said, “We have been standing in line since 6 a.m., and only then did we get the slip. Now we are being asked to come again the next day. It is causing a lot of trouble.” Another applicant added, “People come from far-off places and lose an entire day in this process. The system should be improved.”
Meanwhile, officials at the Aadhaar centre defended the slip system, saying it was introduced to reduce overcrowding and spare people from standing in queues throughout the day. According to them, issuing slips in advance allows applicants to return at a scheduled time for their updates.
However, the increasing rush and long waiting periods have led to growing frustration among residents, who are now urging the administration to put in place a more efficient system at Aadhaar centres across Ranchi.
