Grok 4.5 Enters Private Beta at SpaceX and Tesla, Musk Hints at Monthly AI Model Releases

New Delhi: Elon Musk has announced that xAI's latest artificial intelligence model, Grok 4.5, has entered private beta testing at SpaceX and Tesla, marking its first confirmed deployment across Musk's companies before a broader public rollout.

In a post on X, Musk said Grok 4.5 is built on xAI's 1.5-trillion-parameter V9 foundation model and has received additional training using data from AI coding assistant Cursor. He claimed that early internal evaluations show the model performing close to, and potentially even better than, Anthropic's Claude Opus, although independent benchmark results have not yet been released.

Musk also said reinforcement learning continues to enhance the model's capabilities, while xAI's internal "Grok Build" coding system is improving steadily. He credited the development teams for their work on the latest version.

Looking ahead, Musk revealed that xAI plans to release entirely new AI models trained from scratch every month for the rest of the year through SpaceX, signalling a much faster development cycle for the company's AI initiatives.

The V9 foundation model, first disclosed by Musk in late May, completed training with 1.5 trillion parameters—around three times larger than the 500-billion-parameter v8-small model that currently powers Grok on X. According to Musk, incorporating Cursor's coding data into the training process was aimed at significantly strengthening the model's software development and coding abilities.

Development of the V9 model has progressed in stages. After confirming the completion of training in May, Musk had indicated that the underlying V9-Medium model could see a public release around mid-June. Sunday's announcement is the first confirmation that a version officially branded as Grok 4.5 has advanced to private beta testing inside SpaceX and Tesla, ahead of a wider launch.
