‘Andheri Raah’ to Take Deoghar Audiences from the Darkness of Addiction Towards Hope

The Deoghar Theatre Art Culture Council will stage its social play ‘Andheri Raah’ at Shiv Lok Complex on August 27 at 6 pm, using theatre to highlight the damaging consequences of addiction and promote a healthier, drug-free life.

The play focuses on how addiction can gradually take control of a person's life, affecting not only their physical and mental well-being but also their relationships, career and standing in society. Through its storyline, the production will portray the journey of an individual who becomes trapped in addiction and slowly loses his future, family support and social respect.

The production will also explore the wider impact of substance abuse on families. Financial difficulties, emotional stress, deteriorating relationships and social isolation are among the consequences that the play seeks to bring before the audience.

Theatre as a Tool for Social Awareness

The organisers said the objective is not simply to entertain the audience but to use theatre as a medium for social awareness. By presenting the consequences of addiction through relatable characters and situations, the play aims to encourage young people in particular to stay away from drugs and other addictive substances.

The production is being led by Deoghar Theatre Art Culture Council president and producer Dr Sunil Khawade. Ritesh Kesari is the co-producer, while Ashish Jha has written the story and script.

Deoghar-based artist Mantu Jha, who has also worked in Bollywood, is directing the production. Local artists from Deoghar will perform in the play, giving the production a strong connection with the community.

A Message for Young People

The organisers believe that awareness at an early stage can help prevent people from falling into addiction. The play seeks to remind audiences that substance abuse can begin as an experiment or habit but can eventually have consequences that extend far beyond the individual.

The production team has been working continuously to ensure that the performance combines an engaging storyline with a meaningful social message.

Production head Deepak Mishra, vice-president Naveen Sharma, Prem Kumar, Raj, Ritika, Babita Poddar, Aryan, Shantanu, Sumit, Sajan, Anshu, Chiku and Amar, along with several other council members, are involved in preparations for the programme.

More Than a Stage Performance

‘Andheri Raah’ is being presented as a social initiative rather than merely a theatrical performance. The central message is that addiction can affect an entire family and ultimately have wider consequences for society.

The organisers hope the play will encourage audiences to recognise the warning signs of addiction, support people struggling with substance abuse and understand the importance of seeking help rather than allowing the problem to worsen.

The performance will ultimately deliver a message of hope: breaking away from addiction and choosing a healthy lifestyle can be the first step towards rebuilding an individual's future and restoring family and social relationships.
