Gram Sabha in Raidih Discusses PESA Law and Village Development Priorities

A Gram Sabha was organised on Wednesday at the community hall in Purana Raidih revenue village under Kuduchhatrapur Panchayat of Raidih block as part of the Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP).

The meeting focused on identifying development priorities, assessing local needs and discussing schemes required for the overall development of the panchayat. Rural residents were given an opportunity to raise issues related to basic amenities, ongoing development works and other requirements of the village.

Panchayat Mukhiya Chunya Kujur briefed villagers about various government welfare and development schemes. She particularly highlighted the importance of the Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act, or PESA, and the role of a strong Gram Sabha in ensuring greater participation of villagers in local governance.

Kujur said an empowered Gram Sabha can play an important role in deciding development priorities and ensuring that schemes are implemented according to the actual needs of the village. She urged residents to participate regularly in Gram Sabha meetings and put forward issues concerning their communities.

During the meeting, villagers raised several matters concerning basic infrastructure, development works and other local requirements. The participants also discussed the need to prepare development plans based on the priorities identified by the community rather than relying solely on administrative assessments.

The meeting provided a platform for residents to participate directly in the planning process under GPDP and discuss how government schemes could be better aligned with local needs.

Panchayat assistant Mohammad Waris, Gram Pradhan Rohit Lakra, ward members Saroj Devi and Shambhu Hajam, Janamjay Oraon, Shyam Prasad and hundreds of villagers were present at the meeting.
