Fear of chain-snatching gangs has returned to Koderma after two motorcycle-borne men allegedly snatched a gold chain worth more than Rs 2 lakh from a woman in broad daylight in the Addi Bangla area under Tilaiya police station limits.

The victim has been identified as Sangeeta Jain. The entire incident was captured on a CCTV camera installed outside a nearby house, giving police crucial footage of the suspected snatchers.

According to information, Jain spiritual leader Suyash Sagar Ji Maharaj had arrived in Jhumri Tilaiya on Wednesday. A meal for him had been arranged at the residence of Ajay Jain in the Addi Bangla locality. It was also Sangeeta Jain's birthday, and she had prepared food at home and travelled by e-rickshaw to Ajay Jain's residence.

The incident occurred when she was getting down from the e-rickshaw in front of the house. Two youths riding a motorcycle suddenly approached her and allegedly snatched the gold chain from her neck before speeding away.

People in the area reportedly tried to chase the suspects, but the duo managed to escape.

Sangeeta Jain told police that the chain was worth more than Rs 2 lakh. Following the incident, Tilaiya police reached the spot and examined the CCTV footage from the residence.

The footage reportedly shows the snatching clearly and is now being used by police to identify and track down the suspects. Police are examining the route taken by the motorcycle and other available evidence as part of the investigation.

The incident has caused concern among residents, particularly because the robbery took place in broad daylight in a populated locality. The return of such incidents has also raised concerns about the safety of pedestrians and women carrying jewellery in the area.

Police have stepped up efforts to identify the two suspects based on the CCTV footage.
