
Deoghar: In a major crackdown against cybercrime, Deoghar Police arrested five cyber criminals involved in online fraud during a raid conducted in the Margomunda police station area. The operation was carried out under the direction of SP Praveen Pushkar and led by DSP Kailash Prasad Mahto. Police recovered a large number of mobile phones, SIM cards, ATM cards, cash, and vehicles from the accused.
According to police, they received confidential information that a group of fraudsters in the Margomunda area were posing as customer care representatives of Flipkart, Amazon, and PhonePe to cheat people. The accused were also allegedly impersonating officials of Airtel Payments Bank to trap victims. Apart from this, the gang was involved in online fraud in the name of the PM Kisan Yojana and loan approvals.
Based on the tip-off, police conducted raids and arrested five accused identified as 26-year-old Ayub Ansari of Padania, 40-year-old Mustafa Ansari of Jogidih, 33-year-old Md. Babar Ansari of Padania, 29-year-old Irfan Ansari, and 31-year-old Sameed Ansari of Panchrukhi. All are residents of the Margomunda police station area.During investigation, police found that the accused posed as fake Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm customer care officials and lured people with cashback offers. They would then ask victims to create PhonePe gift cards and transfer the money into their own accounts. The gang also allegedly impersonated Airtel Payments Bank officials and cheated people in the name of blocking and reactivating cards.
Police said the group supplied fake ATM cards to cyber criminals and converted money obtained through online fraud into cash in exchange for a 25 percent commission. The accused are also suspected of providing support and protection to active cybercrime gangs in the region.
Police received information that the accused were on their way to deliver cash when the raid was carried out and they were arrested. During the operation, police seized 11 mobile phones, 24 SIM cards, 16 ATM cards, cash worth ?1,22,060, one Scorpio vehicle, and one Pulsar motorcycle. Preliminary examination of the seized mobile phones and SIM cards has revealed several clues related to cyber fraud activities.The raid team included Madhupur Circle Police Inspector Rautu Honhaga, Margomunda Police Station in-charge Shashi Kapoor, Saheb Ram Kisku, and Madhupur Police Station officer Sandeep Kumar Bhagat. Police are continuing raids to identify and arrest other members associated with the gang.
