BJP seeks from EC to ban on activity of JVM-P after speaker court verdict

Ranchi: The ruling BJP on Friday demanded from Election Commission that the activities under the banner of Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik (JVM-P) should be banned in light of the speaker court verdict.

A BJP delegation on Friday met the state election commissioner L. Khiyante and handed over a memorandum seeking a ban on the activities of the JVM-P. JVM-P was floated by former Chief Minister and once BJP leader Babulala Marandi in 2006.

The speaker on February 20 passed the verdict after hearing the petition to disqualify six JVM-P legislators who had joined BJP in January 2015. The speaker court rejecting the petition on the ground that the JVM-P was merged with the BJP in 2015.
“ There is clear verdict by the speaker court that the JVM-P had merged with BJP. How JVM-P could survive when it had merged which is validated by the speaker court. Based on the speaker court verdict we demanded a ban on activities of the JVM-P. We seek that the JVM-P, name, banner and any activities should be banned” said Deepak Prakash, Jharkhand BJP general secretary to reporters after meeting the Election Commissioner in Ranchi.
