Karam festival celebrates nature, family bonds and Jharkhand’s cultural roots: Hemant Soren

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Tuesday greeted people across the state on Karam festival, describing it as a celebration that brings together nature, cultural identity, family bonds and community spirit.

In his message, Soren said Karam is deeply woven into Jharkhand’s traditional way of life and represents the close relationship between people and nature. He said the festival carries a wider message of respecting, protecting and expressing gratitude towards the natural environment.

“Jal, jungle and zameen” are not only the foundation of life but are also closely connected with Jharkhand’s culture, traditions and heritage, the Chief Minister said, stressing the need to preserve them for future generations.

Soren referred to the traditional celebrations surrounding Karam, including the installation of the Karam branch at the akhara, the beats of the mandar, folk songs and community dances. He said these practices reflect the living folk culture of Jharkhand and help communities maintain a connection with their ancestors and traditional roots.

The Chief Minister said rapid modernisation should not come at the cost of cultural identity. While moving ahead on the path of development, Jharkhand must continue to protect its languages, traditions, folk knowledge and relationship with nature, he said.

He also described Karam as a festival that strengthens the bond between brothers and sisters and promotes mutual trust and social harmony. The celebrations, he said, provide an opportunity for communities to come together and reinforce their shared cultural values.

Soren called on people to collectively preserve the cultural and natural heritage handed down by previous generations and pass it on to children and future generations.

Extending his wishes on the occasion, the Chief Minister prayed for peace, happiness and prosperity in every household and expressed hope that Jharkhand would continue to progress while maintaining its close relationship with nature and its cultural roots.
