Anjali Arora says Mata Sita role feels like a blessing from Lord Ram, Hanuman

Actress Anjali Arora believes her upcoming role as Mata Sita in the mythological film Shri Ramayan Katha came to her as a divine blessing, saying her regular visits to a Hanuman temple and prayers for what was meant for her made the opportunity feel particularly special.

In an exclusive conversation with IANS, Anjali recalled her first meeting with director Abhishek Singh, who approached her for the role and showed her an AI-generated image depicting her as Sita.

“I laughed when I saw that. I said, ‘Man, it's me?’ So sir said, yes, it's you,” she recalled.

The actress said she was initially surprised that the filmmaker saw her in the role and even asked whether he genuinely believed she could play Sita.

“I said, ‘Sir, do you really think I will do it?’ He said, ‘Yes, you will definitely do it.’ So then I took a little time. I thought that if I am getting this thing, maybe this is a blessing,” Anjali said.

She then connected the opportunity with her personal spiritual practice, revealing that she visits a Hanuman temple every Tuesday.

“Because I always go to the Hanuman temple every Tuesday. And I always pray that I will get what is my right. So maybe he has given me this role in the blessing,” she said.

Anjali said she has approached the character with sincerity and tried to understand the qualities traditionally associated with Mata Sita, including patience and sacrifice.

“I have tried to fulfil it completely on my own. Every trait of Sita Ma, her patience, sacrifice, every religion,” she said.

The actress acknowledged that ultimately it would be the audience that decides whether her portrayal connects with them.

“Every actor performs himself and gives his best. Now it is in the hands of the audience whether they accept it or not. We as actors have to see whether we are doing justice to the character that has been given to us,” she said.

Shri Ramayan Katha is directed by Abhishek Singh and stars Dev Sharma as Shri Ram, Anjali Arora as Mata Sita and Rajniesh Duggall as Ravan. Sheel Verma plays Lakshman, while Nirbhay Wadhwa portrays Hanuman.

The film is scheduled for theatrical release across India on September 25.
