Finance Minister Rameshwar Oraon launches 'Kar Samadhan Yojana', asks taxpayers to pay tax on time

Ranchi: Finance Minister Rameshwar Oraon called on the taxpayers of the state to give their taxes on time and become a partner in the development of the country and the state. Speaking after launching the ‘Kar Samadhan Yojana’ here he said that the government spends the amount received from the tax in the development works and public welfare schemes of the country and the state therefore the taxpayers should cooperate with the government in this work by paying taxes on time and become a partner in the development of the country and the state.

He said that the Tax settlement scheme has been brought for “one time settlement” of all the big taxpayers in the commercial sector in the state who have tax arrears and whose cases are pending in the courts so the taxpayers should take benefit from this scheme and make this scheme successful Dr Rameshwar Oraon said that about 5000 cases related to tax defaulters are pending in various courts in the state due to this the state government is losing tax and the taxpayers have to go through the courts and money is also being spent because of this which is neither in their interest nor in the interest of the government that is why the government has come up with a tax settlement scheme so that taxpayers in the business sector can take advantage of this scheme to settle the matter through one-time settlement and pay tax.

The Commercial Tax Minister said that the state is poor, backward and needed funds to take the state on the path of development so the people should pay the tax on time. He directed the officials to collect tax conveniently from the tax defaulters and resolve pending cases in the court and get them paid under tax settlement scheme. He said that there was a need to focus on resource mobilization in the state.

There is a need to review the revenue collection department so that the revenue in the state can be increased further he said adding that the mining area in Odisha and Jharkhand is almost equal but the mining revenue there is about Rs 50,000 crore and in Jharkhand only it is Rs 9,000 crore. He said that the department has achieved more revenue than the target for this the officers of the department deserve congratulations and also those taxpayers who cooperated in achieving this goal by paying taxes on time.

Principal Secretary, Commercial Taxes Department Aradhana Patnaik said that the Jharkhand Taxation Act’s Arrear Settlement Act 2022 (Kar Samadhan Yojana) aims to clear tax arrears of taxpayers, whose cases are pending in court, by “one time settlement”. She said that about Rs 3500 crore is outstanding due to pending court cases. The government is not getting any amount immediately due to pending cases.

The state government is likely to get revenue of about Rs 500 crore from the resolution of pending and disposed cases under the Tax Reconciliation Scheme. She said that IRAU (e-Intelligence and Revenue Analysis Unit) has been set up by the department whose job is to analyze data, as well as cross-check returns filed by taxable persons, check or monitor sector-wise e-way bill generation and due to IRAU’s investigation, the number of taxpayers is also increasing due to detailed information of transactions. 

Ms Patnaik said that STU (Special Tax Unit) has also been constituted by the department, which will work in 5 circles of the state. Their job is to properly guide the big defaulters in the state and also help them in tax collection. Commercial Tax Commissioner Santosh Vatsal said that in 2022- 23, against the target of 18 thousand crores, the department has recovered revenue of Rs 18,500 crore. It is the result of the hard work of the officials of the department that the department has recovered more than the target.

The department got the cooperation and guidance of department minister Dr Rameshwar Oraon and principal secretary Mrs Aradhana Patnaik so it could achieve this goal. On this occasion, many well-known people of the business world including Additional Commissioner
of Commercial Taxes and officials of the department were present.
