Hockey Jharkhand and Hockey Haryana are set for a high-stakes battle for the national title when they meet in the final of the 16th Hockey India Junior Women National Championship 2026 at the Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium near Pune on Sunday.
The championship, being held from August 12 to 23, has brought together some of India's leading junior women's hockey teams. After a demanding campaign, Jharkhand and Haryana have emerged as the two strongest sides and will now compete for the coveted trophy.
Jharkhand, led by captain Rajni Kerketta and coached by Vikas Pant, have built their campaign on determination and composure under pressure. They began with a convincing 6-0 win over Hockey Chandigarh before defeating Hockey Punjab 3-1.
Their quarterfinal against the Hockey Association of Odisha was much tougher. After the match ended 1-1 in regulation time, Jharkhand held their nerve to win 4-3 in the shootout.
The semifinal against Hockey Madhya Pradesh followed a similar pattern. With the contest ending 1-1, Jharkhand again prevailed in the shootout, winning 2-1 to secure their place in the final.
Their ability to handle pressure in consecutive knockout shootouts has emerged as one of the defining strengths of Jharkhand's campaign.

Haryana, meanwhile, have reached the final in emphatic fashion. Led by captain Shashi Khasa and coached by Azad Singh Malik, they opened their campaign with a dominant 10-1 victory over Hockey Bengal before defeating the Hockey Association of Odisha 3-0.
They continued their strong run in the quarterfinals with a 3-1 win over Hockey Chandigarh and then produced their most impressive performance in the semifinals, sweeping aside Chhattisgarh Hockey 8-0.
Haryana have scored 24 goals and conceded only two in four matches, highlighting the balance between their attacking strength and defensive organisation.
The final therefore presents an intriguing contrast in styles. Haryana have relied on consistent attacking pressure and big-margin victories, while Jharkhand have shown resilience and mental strength in closely fought knockout matches.
The contest between the two captains, Rajni Kerketta and Shashi Khasa, could also prove important as both teams look to handle the pressure of a national final.
With Haryana carrying formidable scoring momentum and Jharkhand having demonstrated an ability to thrive in tense situations, the title clash promises to be a closely contested battle for junior women's hockey supremacy.
