An unidentified group damaged a statue of Dr B.R. Ambedkar at Kumardih-Bhadwari village under the Kunda police station area of Deoghar district on Saturday night, triggering anger among local residents and social organisations.
Following the incident, Kunda police reached the village, inspected the damaged statue and spoke to local residents to gather information about the incident. The process of registering an FIR was underway.
The vandalism sparked strong reactions from community representatives and political leaders, who demanded that those responsible be identified and arrested at the earliest.
JMM leader Nirmala Bharti, Congress leader and district 20-point programme committee member Dinesh Kumar Mandal, Bahujan Army state president Gyan Ranjan and Bhim Army member Kamlesh Kumar condemned the incident and called for prompt police action.

They also pointed to a similar incident reported recently in nearby Dasdih village, where an Ambedkar statue was allegedly damaged. They urged the administration to investigate both incidents and take effective steps to prevent a recurrence.
Local residents said such incidents could disturb peace in the area and appealed to the administration to ensure the safety of public memorials and maintain communal harmony.
Bahujan Army state secretary Santosh Das, along with Pritam Mehra, Raj Kumar, Nilesh, Pramod Das, Shyam Ranjan, Rahul Mahto and Rajendra Prasad, visited the spot. Bhim Army members Krishna Kumar and Balram Das, local mukhiya Shrikant Yadav, ward member Sunil Das, Rajesh Yadav and Tripurari Das were also present.
Pawan Das, Chhotu Das, Vivek Kumar Das, Kisan Das, Ritesh Das, Arun Das, Vijay Kumar Das, Jyotin Das, Jitendra Yadav, Soni Kumari, Rekha Kumari and Lalita Devi, along with a large number of villagers, demanded strict action against those responsible.
Residents also urged the authorities to strengthen monitoring around such public sites and take preventive measures to ensure that similar incidents do not occur in the future.
