Chief Minister will inaugurate the National Khadi and Saras Mela on Dec 28

Ranchi: The National Khadi and Saras Festival will be inaugurated on December 28 by Chief Minister Hemant Soren. The festival will start on 28 December and will conclude on 8 January 2023. The festival will be open to the general public from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm.

During a press conference, Khadi Board CEO Rakhal Chandra Besra told that information about various schemes for the common people being run by the state government will also be given to the people participating in the festival. There will be more than 100 stalls in which people will be able to get information about the schemes of the state government and will be able to connect with those schemes.

Besra said that the health department will also organize a health checkup camp for the people during the festival. He informed us that there will be 320 stalls in total 8 sections in Khadi and Saras Mahotsav, including stalls related to Khadi and Saras. 

He informed me that all the sections have been named after the main festivals of Jharkhand, Sarhul, Mage, Sohrai, and Tusu and dances, Chhau, Paika, Jhumar and Dasai. He said that Khadi is not just a cloth but an idea.

Moreover Khadi is a symbol of Indian textile heritage he said adding that the real identity of Khadi is from Mahatma Gandhi and India’s freedom struggle therefore, like every time, dedicating the National Khadi and Saras Festival to Mahatma Gandhi, there will be a Gandhi Museum based on his life through photographs covering all aspects of Mahatma Gandhi’s life so that people can understand the importance of Khadi along with Gandhi’s thoughts.

Besra said that all cultural programs will be organized from December 28 to January 8, including traditional folk dance, singing and playing, Hindi singing, dance drama, modern folk singing and bands.

All of them will be on the main stage so the main stage has been named after the brave son of Jharkhand Birsa Munda. Moreover from Jharkhandi Dhuska Barra to stalls of delicious dishes from different states will also be included in the festival. Also, the carpet area will be buzzing with different types of furniture, cookery items, etc.
