Sreeleela Says Hospital Experience Gave Her a Deeper Understanding of Life and Helped Shape Her as an Actor

Actress Sreeleela says her journey through medical training has influenced the way she understands people and approaches acting, giving her a deeper perspective on emotions, relationships and the realities of life.

The actress, who is preparing for her Bollywood debut in Anurag Basu's upcoming musical drama alongside Kartik Aaryan, recently spoke about how her time in hospitals has shaped her beyond the medical field and contributed to the sensitivity she brings to her performances.

Asked whether her medical background has helped her as an actor, Sreeleela said it has made a significant difference.

"Definitely. 100 percent. I feel it is important for an actor to have a lot of knowledge about everything around the world. General knowledge is also very important. Experiences and your sensitivity meter has to be high," she said.

Sreeleela explained that hospital postings exposed her to situations that went far beyond textbooks and medical procedures. She encountered patients and families dealing with some of the most difficult and vulnerable moments of their lives, experiences that she believes have broadened her understanding of human emotions.

"Hospital stories, what I've seen in my course of being in the hospital or in my postings, was, people's emotional journeys very closely. You see life and death, you see situations, you see people having financial situations to clear bills. There's so many stories. What is cinema? It's a story and like that I've been grateful," she said.

According to the actress, she encountered several such personal stories on a regular basis during her hospital postings. That exposure, she believes, helped her develop a more nuanced understanding of people and the circumstances that shape their behaviour.

"I mean I was exposed to around three, four stories like this every day so it gives you so much perspective. It gives, it opens your mind up very differently. You're very sensitive about microscopic things and you're very real with," she added.

Sreeleela also drew a sharp contrast between the two worlds she has experienced — the glamour and colour of cinema and the stark realities of a hospital.

"That's what I say that this side it's just one colorful world, dancing, there's wonderful costumes, there's so many people and there's a white coat. It's a completely different situation. You're seeing life and death, so that really matures you as an actor," she said.

Her comments highlight how experiences outside the film industry can become an important source of emotional understanding for performers. For Sreeleela, observing people at moments of vulnerability appears to have strengthened the empathy and awareness she brings to characters on screen.

On the professional front, Sreeleela is set to enter Bollywood with Anurag Basu's upcoming musical drama, in which she will share the screen with Kartik Aaryan. The project marks an important new phase in her career as she expands her presence into Hindi cinema.
