Shalini Pandey Marks 9 Years of ‘Arjun Reddy’: ‘This Is Where It All Began’

Actress Shalini Pandey is looking back at the film that launched her acting career as ‘Arjun Reddy’ completes nine years.

The actress, who was last seen in the series ‘Dabba Cartel’, took to Instagram Stories on Tuesday to mark the anniversary by sharing a still from the Telugu film. Alongside the picture, she penned an emotional note expressing gratitude to audiences for embracing her debut character, Preethi.

“This was the beginning. This is where it all began,” Shalini wrote, thanking fans for giving the film and her character so much love. She added that Preethi would remain a part of her forever, describing the film as her first and “a piece of my heart”.

The post highlights the enduring place ‘Arjun Reddy’ holds in Shalini’s career. Her portrayal of Preethi introduced her to a wide Telugu-speaking audience and became one of the defining early milestones of her journey as an actress.

Since then, Shalini has expanded her work beyond Telugu cinema and taken on roles in Hindi films and web series, steadily building a diverse body of work.

Released in 2017, ‘Arjun Reddy’ also marked filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s directorial debut. The film was later remade in Hindi as ‘Kabir Singh’, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani.

Starring Vijay Deverakonda in the titular role, ‘Arjun Reddy’ became one of the most discussed films in Telugu cinema. Its intense portrayal of love, anger, masculinity, alcoholism and emotional turmoil generated sharply divided reactions.

While supporters praised its raw and unconventional treatment of a troubled protagonist, critics questioned the film’s portrayal of possessive relationships, aggression and abusive behaviour. The debate surrounding the film continued well beyond its theatrical run and became part of the wider conversation around the depiction of romance and masculinity in Indian cinema.

Despite the controversy, the film left a significant mark on popular culture. Vijay Deverakonda’s portrayal of Arjun became widely recognisable, influencing fashion, dialogue and the portrayal of the rebellious, emotionally volatile romantic hero.

For Shalini Pandey, however, the film remains more personal than its cultural impact. Nine years later, she continues to remember ‘Arjun Reddy’ as the starting point of her journey in the film industry and Preethi as a character that remains deeply connected to her debut.
