Second FIR Filed Against MLA Jairam Mahto in Barwadda Police Station Dispute

The legal troubles of Dumri MLA Jairam Mahto appear to be mounting following the controversy at the Barwadda police station. A second FIR has now been registered against Mahto and 10 others on the complaint of the station in-charge. The case also names 40 to 50 unidentified people as accused.

According to police, the FIR relates to allegations of gathering a crowd inside the police station premises, creating a disturbance and obstructing government officials from carrying out their duties. The complaint further alleges that rumours were spread through a social media live broadcast claiming that Ganesh Das, who had been taken into custody, was assaulted by police. The alleged misinformation reportedly led people to gather at the police station.

Police said the incident is being investigated and CCTV footage from the police station is being examined to establish what happened and identify those involved. Investigators are also looking into the sequence of events leading to the gathering and the alleged disruption of police work.

Officials have indicated that the names of additional people could be added to the FIR if their involvement emerges during the investigation. The use of CCTV footage and other available evidence is expected to play an important role in determining individual responsibility.

This is not the only case arising from the Barwadda police station controversy. An earlier FIR was registered on the complaint of the son of Mukhiya Yashoda Devi, naming Jairam Mahto and others. At the same time, a separate FIR was also registered on the complaint filed by Mahto.

With multiple FIRs now linked to the same dispute, the Barwadda police station incident has moved beyond a local confrontation and assumed wider political and legal significance. The investigation will now determine whether the allegations against the named and unidentified accused are supported by evidence.
