Thunderstorms, Lightning Likely in Ranchi, Bokaro, Ramgarh and Nearby Districts Today

Jamshedpur: Residents of several districts in Jharkhand should brace for unsettled weather, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds in different parts of the state over the coming days. The changing weather pattern is linked to favourable conditions for the further advance of the Southwest Monsoon into eastern India.

According to the forecast, Ramgarh, Bokaro, Ranchi, Gumla and Khunti are likely to witness thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph on Tuesday.

The weather is expected to remain active on June 10, with thunderstorms and gusty winds likely across most districts, barring parts of north-western and central Jharkhand, including Koderma and Hazaribagh.

On June 11, weather conditions may become more intense. Districts such as Dhanbad, Bokaro, Koderma, Hazaribagh, Ramgarh and Ranchi could experience stronger winds reaching 50-60 kmph, along with thunderstorms and lightning. Other areas of the state are also likely to see thunderstorms with wind speeds of 40-50 kmph.

The IMD has further indicated that isolated places across Jharkhand may continue to receive thunderstorms and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph on June 14.

Meteorologists attribute the weather activity to an upper-air cyclonic circulation over eastern Uttar Pradesh and adjoining regions, extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level. In addition, troughs extending from Punjab to Bihar and from east Bihar to the coastal belt of Gangetic West Bengal are contributing to the prevailing atmospheric instability.

Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon has advanced into the remaining parts of the northeastern states, the whole of Sikkim, and parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal. Weather experts at the IMD's Regional Meteorological Centre in Kolkata said conditions remain favourable for the monsoon's further progress into West Bengal, Odisha and neighbouring eastern regions over the next four to five days.

The anticipated rain and thunderstorm activity is expected to bring much-needed relief from the hot and humid weather that has persisted across Jharkhand in recent days.
