CBI Busts International Cybercrime Racket, Seizes Cryptocurrency Worth Rs. 2.8 Crore

New Delhi – In a major breakthrough, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has dismantled a transnational cybercrime network and recovered cryptocurrencies valued at ?2.8 crore. The agency also arrested a suspect, identified as Rahul Arora, following searches at three locations.

This action is part of the CBI’s ongoing cybercrime crackdown under “Operation Chakra-V”, aimed at curbing digital fraud and bringing cybercriminals to justice while protecting citizens from online exploitation—both in India and abroad.

Rahul Arora is expected to be produced before a Special CBI Court today.

The CBI said it is continuing its investigation to track down Arora’s associates and uncover the broader international money laundering links involving digital assets.

The case emerged following intelligence inputs about a cybercrime syndicate based in India, which was allegedly targeting unsuspecting victims in the United States and Canada by posing as government officials and representatives from reputable tech support companies.

Based on these inputs, the CBI carried out searches and unearthed incriminating materials exposing the syndicate’s operations in cross-border cyber fraud.

The seized evidence includes devices used for international calls with masked caller IDs, lead generation tools based on social engineering techniques, voice recordings, and various other digital tools integral to the cybercrime network.

In addition to cryptocurrencies worth ?2.8 crore, the CBI also recovered unaccounted cash amounting to ?22 lakh from the accused’s possession.

The recovery of virtual digital assets (VDAs) from this international cybercrime ring is seen as a significant success in the agency’s tech-driven efforts to combat cyber threats.
