PM Modi Waves Tiranga at Chenab Bridge, Sends Strong Message After Pahalgam Attack

Katra: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the Chenab Bridge — the world’s highest railway bridge — and applauded the engineers and workers behind the remarkable feat of infrastructure.

During his visit to Jammu and Kashmir, his first since the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, PM Modi is set to unveil development projects worth over ?48,000 crore. However, it was his symbolic gesture of waving the national flag atop the Chenab Bridge that captured national attention.

After inaugurating the engineering marvel spanning the Chenab River, PM Modi walked across the bridge and proudly waved the Indian Tricolour, reflecting his deep patriotic spirit. The act was widely seen as a strong response to the Pahalgam attackers and a message of defiance to Pakistan — underlining India’s unwavering commitment to peace, development, and security in the region.

The Chenab Bridge, now the world’s tallest railway arch bridge, is a critical link connecting Kashmir to the rest of India, ensuring year-round connectivity. It has been built to withstand major earthquakes and extreme weather, including sub-zero winter temperatures.

Following the inauguration, PM Modi also toured a photo exhibition highlighting the challenges overcome during the bridge’s construction. He interacted with the engineers and laborers who braved difficult terrain and severe weather to complete the 359-metre-tall bridge — which stands 35 metres higher than the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

The Chenab Bridge, stretching 1,315 metres in length, is celebrated as an architectural wonder, capable of withstanding seismic forces and high-speed winds — a symbol of India’s engineering prowess and resilient spirit.
