Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Scripts History with Record 11-Ball Fifty in List A Cricket

Dambulla: Teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi produced a breathtaking display of power-hitting, smashing the fastest half-century in List A cricket during the India A vs Sri Lanka A Tri-Series final at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Sunday.

The 15-year-old left-hander reached his fifty in just 11 deliveries, eclipsing the previous record of a 12-ball half-century set by Kaushalya Weeraratne 21 years ago. Opening the innings, Sooryavanshi raced to the landmark with five fours and five sixes, registering his maiden fifty for India A in sensational fashion.

He looked set for a record century before Sri Lanka A captain Sahan Arachchige dismissed him for a blistering 94 off just 29 balls in the ninth over. His explosive innings featured 10 fours and eight towering sixes, leaving the opposition with little answer to his fearless stroke play.

Sooryavanshi's remarkable knock comes just weeks after he earned his maiden call-up to India's T20I squad for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England, as well as the 2026 Asian Games.

At just 15 years and 71 days of age, the young opener became the youngest player ever selected for India's men's cricket team, surpassing the long-standing record held by Sachin Tendulkar.

Tendulkar made his international debut against Pakistan in 1989 at the age of 16 years and 205 days, becoming India's youngest men's international cricketer. If Sooryavanshi takes the field on the upcoming tour, he will rewrite that record as well.

Currently, Washington Sundar remains India's youngest T20I debutant, having made his first appearance at 18 years and 80 days against Sri Lanka in 2017. Tendulkar also continues to hold the record as India's youngest ODI debutant, having played his first one-day international at 16 years and 238 days.
