New Delhi- Apple has introduced new AI-powered health features for users in India, bringing sleep apnea notifications to the Apple Watch and a clinically validated hearing test to AirPods Pro devices.
The company said the new tools are designed to help users monitor their health and identify possible medical conditions through wearable technology.
Apple Watch users will now receive sleep apnea notifications through a new “Breathing Disturbances” feature, which uses the watch’s accelerometer to track wrist movements linked to irregular breathing patterns during sleep.
The system analyses breathing data over a 30-day period and sends alerts if it detects repeated signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea, advising users to seek medical consultation for further diagnosis and treatment.
Users can also generate and export a PDF report containing breathing disturbance data and related insights to share with healthcare professionals.
“From sleep apnea notifications on Apple Watch to a hearing test with AirPods Pro, we are excited to bring these meaningful capabilities to our users in India,” said Sumbul Desai.
Apple highlighted that sleep apnea affects more than one billion people worldwide and frequently goes undiagnosed, increasing the risk of conditions such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes and heart-related diseases.
The company has also introduced a hearing test feature for AirPods Pro users in India. Based on pure-tone audiometry, the clinically validated test can be completed in about five minutes using AirPods Pro connected to a compatible iPhone or iPad.
After the test, users receive a detailed summary of their hearing levels, including measurements for each ear, hearing loss classifications and personalised recommendations.
Apple said the hearing results, including the audiogram, will be securely stored in the Health app and can also be shared with doctors or hearing specialists.
The Hearing Test feature is available on AirPods Pro 2 and newer models running the latest firmware with devices powered by iOS 18, iPadOS 18 or later versions.
