Indian Railways Reveals First Look of India’s Bullet Train for Mumbai-Ahmedabad Route

New Delhi: Indian Railways on Monday unveiled the design of India’s first bullet train that will run on the ambitious Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail corridor. The proposed train design has been displayed at the Ministry of Railways office in New Delhi.

Sharing details, the Railway Ministry said that the image of the high-speed train has been installed at Gate No. 4 of the ministry premises, offering a glimpse of India’s upcoming bullet train project.

Earlier this year, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Lok Sabha that the 508-km-long Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail corridor will pass through Maharashtra, Gujarat, and the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

The high-speed rail line will have 12 stations, including Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Billimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad, and Sabarmati.

The ministry stated that foundation work has already been completed at eight stations in Gujarat — Vapi, Billimora, Surat, Bharuch, Anand, Vadodara, Ahmedabad and Sabarmati. Construction activities are currently progressing at Thane, Virar and Boisar in Maharashtra, while excavation work at the underground Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) station is close to completion.

The project has also achieved major milestones in bridge construction. So far, 17 river bridges have been completed, while work continues on key bridges over the Narmada, Mahi, Tapti and Sabarmati rivers in Gujarat. Additional bridge work is underway in Maharashtra as well.

At the BKC underground station, excavation work has reached nearly 91 per cent completion. The project’s 4.8-km under-sea tunnel section between Ghansoli and Shilphata has also been completed.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project is being developed under the government’s “Make in India” initiative. Train sets capable of reaching a design speed of 280 kmph are being jointly developed by BEML Limited in Bengaluru and Integral Coach Factory in Chennai.

According to the government, the entire 1,389.5 hectares of land required for the project has already been acquired. Compensation and rehabilitation measures for affected families were carried out in coordination with the governments of Gujarat and Maharashtra under existing land acquisition laws.
