Los Angeles: Hollywood star Margot Robbie has finally cleared up a long-running internet misconception about her birthplace, saying that online information about her early life has been incorrect for years.
The actress revealed that although many people believe she was born in Dalby, a rural town in Queensland, she was actually born on Australia’s Gold Coast. Explaining the confusion during an interview with Magic Radio, Robbie said Dalby is her family’s hometown, which likely led to the misunderstanding.
She said it was surprising that the incorrect information had continued circulating for so long, despite her career spanning more than a decade in Hollywood.
The actress had previously spoken about Dalby during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2014, where she described it as a small country town located several hours inland from the coast. She humorously recalled how excited the town became over the opening of a Big W department store, joking that it remained the biggest topic of conversation there for years.
Robbie also reflected on her childhood in Australia and said she was never particularly attached to Barbie dolls growing up, despite later starring in the blockbuster film Barbie. She shared that her sister and cousin owned Barbie dolls, but she personally preferred outdoor adventures and described herself as more of a “roll-around-in-the-mud” kind of child.
In earlier interviews, Robbie had also spoken about common stereotypes surrounding Australia, including questions about kangaroos and snakes. She admitted that wild animals were indeed part of her childhood experience, though she joked that it was not typical for every Australian family.
The actress added that one of the most special parts of her upbringing is the strong bond she still shares with her preschool friends, saying the group has remained close over the years despite her global fame.
