Los Angeles — Hollywood actress Lindsay Lohan says she is eager to explore more serious and diverse roles as she looks to move beyond the romantic-comedy image she feels has long defined her career.
The actress, who rose to fame with films like The Parent Trap, Freaky Friday and Mean Girls, is set to star in the upcoming drama series Count My Lies.
Speaking to Extra, Lohan shared that the project marks a refreshing change for her creatively.
“This is my first real scripted series where I’m playing a full role,” she said. “The character feels very different for me, and that’s important because I often get typecast in romcom-style roles. I want to challenge myself with new kinds of characters, and this project gives me that opportunity.”
Lohan stars opposite Kit Harington, best known for Game of Thrones. The two play a married couple in the thriller series, though plot details are still being kept secret.
Harington described the show as a “twisty domestic thriller” and admitted the cast is still figuring out how to talk about the project publicly as filming continues.
Lohan also reflected on the challenges of early fame, admitting that life in Hollywood became overwhelming after the success of The Parent Trap.
In an earlier interview with Vogue Arabia
, she revealed she wishes she had listened to her parents and moved back to New York instead of staying in Los Angeles during her teenage years.
“While a lot of it was fun, it was also difficult,” she said. “Looking back, I sometimes wonder why no one stepped in more to protect me when I was younger.”
The actress eventually relocated to Dubai in 2014 to escape the intense spotlight surrounding her career. Lohan, who is married to financier Bader Shammas, said moving abroad helped her rediscover balance and happiness.
“I wasn’t enjoying the business anymore or finding roles I connected with,” she explained. “I wanted a more real life, and moving to Dubai gave me that.”
