MeitY Sets Up Expert Panel to Shape India’s AI Governance Framework

New Delhi — The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has constituted a Technology and Policy Expert Committee (TPEC) to strengthen India’s evolving approach to artificial intelligence governance.

The newly formed panel will act as an advisory body to the AI Governance and Economic Group (AIGEG), offering critical inputs on policy design, regulatory strategies, and India’s role in global AI discussions. Chaired by the MeitY Secretary, the committee includes experts from academia, the tech industry, and digital policy spaces.

According to the government, TPEC will help interpret complex technological developments, evaluate regulatory frameworks, and align global best practices with India’s socio-economic and strategic priorities. Its mandate also includes supporting the AIGEG with expert insights on key national issues related to AI governance.

The committee will monitor emerging AI capabilities, identify risks and regulatory gaps, and track international policy trends. It is also expected to contribute to India’s positioning in global AI governance forums.

Under the broader governance structure, AIGEG will define the strategic direction and ensure coordination across ministries, while TPEC will translate technical and policy challenges into actionable recommendations.

The government said this framework aims to create a more agile and forward-looking AI governance system, ensuring better alignment between strategy, regulation, and technology.

In a related development, Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Limited (BECIL) has signed an agreement with Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) to collaborate on advanced technologies and digital transformation initiatives.

The partnership will focus on joint projects, consultancy, and technical support, along with developing solutions in areas such as AI, machine learning, Internet of Things (IoT), cybersecurity, 5G, and cloud computing.
