PM Modi Commissions Three Naval Vessels, Says India is Building a Self-Reliant Maritime Future

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday commissioned three key naval platforms—INS Dunagiri, INS Sanshodhak and INS Agray—at the Tri-Commissioning ceremony held at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, describing the event as another step towards a self-reliant and developed India.

The ceremony coincided with International Day of Yoga and World Hydrography Day, adding significance to the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said Bengal has historically played a vital role in shaping India's progress and connecting the country with the world through maritime trade. "Today, on this land, programmes linked to a self-reliant India and Viksit Bharat are being carried out," he said.

Announcing the induction of the three naval platforms into the Indian Navy, Modi highlighted the commissioning of INS Sanshodhak, describing it as India's most advanced hydrographic survey ship.

Emphasising the growing importance of maritime strength, the Prime Minister said no nation can emerge as a global power without strong naval capabilities. Oceans, he noted, are central to global trade, security, digital connectivity through undersea cables, and future energy resources.

"The country with strong maritime capability will have a strong economy. India understands this clearly and is preparing itself accordingly," he said.

Referring to India's progress in indigenous defence manufacturing, Modi said the journey from INS Vikrant to the commissioning of the latest naval platforms reflects the country's growing self-reliance.

He stressed that India no longer wants to remain merely a buyer of defence equipment. "Our armed forces cannot depend only on global markets. India wants to become a creator, and when we become creators, we will also play a decisive role in shaping global outcomes," he said.

Highlighting the expansion of naval infrastructure, the Prime Minister said nearly 45 major naval platforms are currently under construction, calling it a reflection of India's rapidly growing industrial capabilities.

He also underscored the employment potential of the maritime sector, saying it would create lakhs of jobs in the coming years. More than 200 MSMEs contributed to the construction of the three newly commissioned vessels, supporting thousands of jobs across the manufacturing ecosystem.

Calling the maritime sector a key driver of economic growth, Modi said India is now ready to move to the next stage of maritime development while strengthening its defence capabilities and advancing the vision of a self-reliant, developed nation.
