Gumla: Seven women’s self-help groups in Jharkhand's Gumla district have received tractors at an 80 per cent subsidy under the Chief Minister's Tractor Distribution Scheme, in a major initiative to promote agricultural mechanisation and strengthen rural livelihoods.

The tractors were distributed during an agricultural equipment distribution programme organised by the District Land Conservation Department at the District Agriculture Department office premises in Gumla on Thursday. Besides the tractors, various agricultural implements were also distributed among more than eight farmers.

Gumla MLA Bhushan Tirkey attended the programme as the chief guest, while Deputy Commissioner Dileshwar Mahto was present as the special guest. Other attendees included Zila Parishad Chairperson Kiran Mala Bara, Gumla Sub-Divisional Officer Akhilesh Kumar, Zila Parishad Vice-Chairperson Sanyukta Devi, District Land Conservation Officer Ram Prakash Kumar, Land Conservation Officer Archana Tirkey and Assistant Engineer Deonath Kumar.

Addressing the gathering, MLA Bhushan Tirkey described the scheme as an important initiative by the state government to improve farmers' access to modern agricultural equipment. He said distribution through the Land Conservation Department would help extend the benefits of government schemes to villages across the district.

He emphasised that the government's objective was to ensure that development initiatives reached the most disadvantaged sections of society. He also urged the beneficiaries to make proper and effective use of the tractors and other equipment to improve agricultural productivity and achieve greater financial independence.

Deputy Commissioner Dileshwar Mahto highlighted the importance of agriculture in Gumla, noting that a large section of the district's population depends directly or indirectly on farming for their livelihoods.

He said providing modern agricultural machinery would reduce the time and labour required for farming while helping farmers expand their cultivated land and increase production.

The Deputy Commissioner also encouraged farmers to make greater use of available resources during the upcoming Rabi cropping season and bring more agricultural land under cultivation.

He said the district administration was working to ensure that farmers received the necessary resources and facilities to strengthen agricultural activities and improve their economic conditions.

Mahto urged the beneficiary women’s groups and farmers to use the distributed tractors and agricultural equipment collectively and responsibly so that more people could benefit from these resources.
