Gumla: Preparations for the national conference of the All India Agricultural Workers' Union, scheduled for November 21 and 22 in Suriya block of Jharkhand's Giridih district, are underway. In this connection, a meeting of the Gumla district committee was held under the chairmanship of Comrade Gajendra Singh in the presence of South Chotanagpur in-charge Comrade Mohan Dutta.
The meeting began with a minute of silence to pay tribute to Comrade Swadesh Bhattacharya, a member of the organisation's central leadership who recently passed away. Participants also paid floral tributes at his portrait.
The gathering discussed various aspects of organising a successful national conference, including the selection of delegates from Gumla district, arrangements for the event and the collection of conference funds and membership fees.
It was decided that the district's delegates would leave for Giridih on November 20 to participate in the conference. Party workers, including those associated with the organisation's local units, will conduct an awareness and membership campaign from November 6 to November 18.
Addressing the meeting, CPI(ML) state committee member Comrade Mohan Dutta said efforts would be made to strengthen the Jharkhand Agricultural Workers' Union (JHAMAS) in Gumla and develop it into a centre for people's movements and struggles.
Several party members and activists, including Mohan Dutta, Gajendra Singh, Birjanand Rao, Humayun Sahu, Lalit Sahu, Sushma Devi, Devki Devi and Jagal Munda, attended the meeting.
