Rajrappa: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking ahead of the festive season, Rajrappa police in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district have arrested six people allegedly involved in the illegal brown sugar trade. Police seized 5.88 grams of brown sugar, two vehicles and three mobile phones during the operation.
SDPO Alok Ranjan shared details of the arrests at a press conference at Rajrappa police station on Wednesday.
According to police, the operation followed a tip-off received by Ramgarh Superintendent of Police on November 3, 2026, at around 5.10 p.m. The information indicated that three people travelling on a scooter from Mahuatand towards Borobing were carrying brown sugar and other narcotic substances.
A special investigation team (SIT) was formed under the leadership of the Ramgarh SDPO to verify the information and take immediate action. Acting on the tip-off, police set up a checkpoint near Borobing Bridge and began checking vehicles coming from the Mahuatand side.
At around 7.45 p.m., officers stopped a scooter carrying three suspected persons. They were identified as Divakar Kumar Thakur (28) and Krishna Nayak (32), both residents of Jonha, and Anand Lakra (20), a resident of Mahuadipa, under Angara police station limits in Ranchi district.
During questioning, the three allegedly told police that they purchased brown sugar from Deepak Rajak, Akash Singh alias Gundu and Hemant Rajbhar in the Rajrappa area and sold it in Ranchi and neighbouring areas. They also admitted to consuming the substance themselves, according to the police. The suspects further claimed that they had bought the latest consignment from the three suppliers at an isolated location in a forested area along the road towards Mahuatand.
Following this information, the SIT conducted raids and arrested the three alleged suppliers — Deepak Rajak (19), Akash Singh alias Gundu (23) and Hemant Rajbhar (27).
Police prepared a seizure list and confiscated the recovered items. An FIR has been registered at Rajrappa police station under Case No. 139/26, dated November 3, 2026. Further investigation is underway.
