Ranchi: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation has warned of strict action against anyone found illegally collecting money from roadside fruit and vegetable vendors. At the same time, the civic body is planning to relocate several groups of street vendors to designated vending zones to improve market organisation and ease congestion.
Municipal Commissioner Sushant Gaurav said complaints of illegal collections from vendors would be taken seriously and those involved would face action.
The directives were issued during a review meeting on activities under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM), implemented by the municipal corporation. Chaired by Gaurav, the meeting reviewed the operation of the Mukhyamantri Shramik Yojana, vending zones, labour chowks and labour sheds, along with plans for their further development.
Officials informed the meeting that 407 workers had been registered under the Mukhyamantri Shramik Yojana during the current financial year for sanitation-related work. These workers have been assigned duties through different municipal corporation departments.
The Municipal Commissioner directed officials to ensure that the responsibilities of regular municipal employees and workers registered under the scheme do not overlap. He also instructed that the scheme workers be deployed for cleaning vending zones, rivers, major drains and other public places.
The meeting also reviewed facilities at labour chowks across the city. Labour chowks are currently operational at Doranda Market, Late Durga Soren Chowk and near the Haj House. Work is underway to develop five more such facilities at other locations. Gaur directed the concerned officials and community organisations to ensure their regular maintenance.
**Vegetable vendors to be shifted to designated spaces**
As part of the plan to organise street vending, vegetable sellers operating at the weekly market in Morabadi will be temporarily shifted to the vending zone near the Morabadi Registry Office.
Similarly, vendors currently operating along the roadside stretch from Kachahari Chowk to Naga Baba Khatal will be accommodated in a designated section of a vending zone.
The civic body's initiative aims to provide vendors with organised spaces, improve the management of roadside markets and prevent illegal collections. The effectiveness of the measures will depend on how quickly the proposed relocation and enforcement plans are implemented.
