Chandil: Chief Minister Hemant Soren visited his maternal uncle’s home in Dhatkidih village of Chandil block for the first time on Tuesday following the death of his mother. Accompanied by family members, he observed traditional rituals of the Santhal Adivasi community.
His wife, Kalpana Murmu Soren, sister-in-law Sita Soren and other family members were also present during the visit.
According to Santhal tradition, following the death of a mother, her children visit their maternal uncle’s home to perform rituals associated with the observance of mourning. These customs include traditional practices involving datun (tooth-cleaning sticks) and water, among other rites.
Hemant Soren visited Dhatkidih to fulfil this customary social and religious obligation. Along with his family and relatives, he completed the traditional rituals observed by the Santhal community after the loss of a mother.
