Gumla Polytechnic Holds Awareness Drive on Tobacco, Nicotine and Food Safety

An awareness programme on the harmful effects of tobacco and nicotine, along with food safety and hygiene, was organised at Gumla Polytechnic College to educate students about the health risks associated with tobacco consumption and unsafe food practices.

More than 100 students participated in the awareness session, which was jointly led by Food Safety Officer Prakash Chandra Guggi and Tobacco Control Officer Vandana Smita Horo.

During the programme, Vandana Smita Horo explained the serious physical and psychological effects associated with tobacco and nicotine use. Through a video presentation, she highlighted how nicotine can adversely affect vital organs and systems, particularly the brain, heart, lungs and nervous system, while also increasing the risk of addiction among young people.

Food Safety Officer Prakash Chandra Guggi spoke to the students about the importance of food safety, hygiene and responsible eating habits. He cautioned them about the health risks associated with adulterated and unhygienic food and encouraged them to choose clean, nutritious and safe food.

As part of food safety and quality monitoring, Guggi also inspected Shri Riddhi Dairy & Creamery on Palkot Road in Gumla. The inspection covered the quality and storage conditions of milk and dairy products available at the establishment, including fresh milk, paneer, khoa, rabri, milk cake and butter.

The dairy operator was instructed to strictly maintain hygiene and food safety standards and ensure that consumers are provided with clean, safe and quality dairy products.
