Santa Public School Director Hemant Kumar Honoured by Lions Club Gumla

The Lions Club Gumla felicitated Santa Public School director Hemant Kumar on Friday for being honoured with the Pride of Jharkhand Award for his contribution to education and efforts to provide educational opportunities to children from underprivileged sections of society.

A felicitation ceremony was organised at Santa Public School in Shastri Nagar, Gumla, where members of the Lions Club and the school community congratulated Hemant Kumar on the recognition.

Hemant Kumar was recently presented the Hindustan Times Millennial Award – Pride of Jharkhand at a ceremony held at the Chanakya BNR Hotel in Ranchi. The award recognised his contribution to the education sector and his efforts to bring children from economically weaker and disadvantaged backgrounds into the education system.

Speaking at the event, Lions Club Gumla secretary Dr Shankar Lal Jajodia said education was one of the most effective means of bringing positive change to society. He said Hemant Kumar's work was helping create opportunities for children to pursue education and build a better future.

First Vice-President Lion Damodar Kaser said it was a matter of pride for Gumla that someone working in the field of education in the district had received an award such as the Pride of Jharkhand.

Akhil Kumar also congratulated Hemant Kumar and said recognition of work in education and social service could encourage the younger generation to contribute to society.

Treasurer Lion Sanjay Kumar Agrawal, along with other members of the Lions Club and representatives of the school community, attended the programme.

Expressing his gratitude, Hemant Kumar said he was thankful to Hindustan Times for the recognition but considered the award a collective achievement rather than a personal accomplishment.

He said the honour belonged equally to the teachers, students, parents and supporters who had stood with him in his efforts to expand access to education.

“Education is not merely a means of securing employment; I have always believed that it is one of the strongest forces for transforming society and the nation,” Kumar said.

He said he would continue working with dedication in the fields of education and social service, with a particular focus on ensuring that children from financially disadvantaged families do not miss out on quality education because of economic difficulties.

Kumar also thanked the Lions Club Gumla president, secretary Dr Shankar Lal Jajodia, treasurer Lion Sanjay Kumar Agrawal, First Vice-President Lion Damodar Kaser and other club members for organising the felicitation.

The ceremony was marked by an atmosphere of enthusiasm, with members presenting Kumar with bouquets and extending their best wishes for his future endeavours.
