Police foil robbery plot in Seraikela-Kharsawan, six arrested with arms and weapons

Police foiled an alleged robbery plot in the Chowka police station area of Jharkhand’s Seraikela-Kharsawan district by arresting six suspects before they could carry out the planned crime, officials said on Monday.

The police recovered a pistol, live ammunition, a knife, a dauli, a hammer, seven mobile phones and three motorcycles from the arrested suspects, besides other items allegedly linked to criminal activities.

Superintendent of Police Manoj Swargiyari told reporters at Chowka police station that police received information on September 6 that a group of suspected criminals had gathered at a closed Nav Prathamik School in Bariabera, located in Chutiyakhals Tola of Matkamdih, allegedly to plan a major criminal operation.

Acting on the information, police first verified the tip-off and then formed a special team to conduct a raid at the school premises.

When the police team reached the location, the suspects reportedly tried to react to the sudden presence of the officers. However, police surrounded the area and managed to apprehend all six suspects at the spot.

A search of the suspects and the area led to the recovery of the pistol, ammunition, knife, dauli and hammer, along with seven mobile phones and three motorcycles.

During preliminary questioning, the arrested suspects allegedly admitted to their involvement in several incidents of robbery and snatching reported in the area. Police are now questioning them further to establish their alleged role in these cases and identify any other members of the group.

Investigators are also checking the criminal records of the arrested suspects and examining whether they were involved in other incidents that have taken place in the region.

Police said the timely intervention prevented the suspects from allegedly carrying out a major crime. The operation also highlights the importance of intelligence gathering and prompt police action in disrupting criminal plans before they turn into actual incidents.
