Police destroy 450 kg of fermented mahua stock in crackdown across three Ramgarh areas

Police carried out a coordinated crackdown on illegal mahua liquor production in three police station areas of Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district on Monday, destroying around 4.5 quintals, or 450 kg, of fermented mahua stock, officials said.

The action was carried out in the Mandu, West Bokaro and Bhurkunda police station areas following directions from Ramgarh Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar Lunayat.

Police teams led by the respective station house officers conducted raids at locations suspected of being involved in the illegal manufacture of mahua liquor. During the operation, large quantities of fermented mahua, locally known as ‘java mahua’, were recovered and destroyed.

SP Mukesh Kumar Lunayat said approximately 4.5 quintals of the fermented stock were destroyed during the campaign.

The police action forms part of the district-wide drive against illegal activities and attempts to curb the production and sale of illicit liquor. Police officials said such operations would continue in different parts of the district to prevent illegal liquor-related activities.

The crackdown has also drawn attention among local residents, with the police administration emphasising that action against illicit liquor is not limited to arrests but also involves dismantling the infrastructure used for its production.

The Ramgarh police leadership has been carrying out enforcement drives against different forms of illegal activity under the direction of the Superintendent of Police. Monday’s operation in three police station areas was part of these continuing efforts.

Police have appealed to residents to share information about illegal liquor production or other unlawful activities with the authorities so that timely action can be taken.
