Giddi police foiled an alleged major criminal plan linked to the Rahul Dubey gang after acting on a tip-off during the early hours of Saturday. Two suspected gang members were injured in a police encounter and subsequently arrested, while a third suspect managed to escape into a nearby forest.
According to police, the operation was launched after information was received around 2:30 a.m. on the night of August 21-22 that members of the Rahul Dubey gang were travelling from the Bhurkunda side on a motorcycle and were allegedly planning a major criminal activity in the colliery and transport road areas under Giddi police station.
Acting on the information, Giddi police station in-charge Mohammad Iqbal Hussain, along with the officer-in-charge of Urimari police station and armed personnel, reached the area and began checking vehicles near the Old Kanta Ghar Road.
Suspects opened fire at police
At around 3:50 a.m., police spotted three people approaching from the Bhurkunda side on a motorcycle. When the police signalled them to stop, the suspects allegedly turned the motorcycle around and attempted to flee.
The motorcycle lost balance and fell during the escape attempt. The three suspects then reportedly ran towards a nearby forest. Police said the suspects took cover in the forest and opened direct fire at the police team.
The police personnel returned fire in self-defence, during which two of the suspects sustained bullet injuries.
Two arrested, third suspect escapes
The injured suspects were identified as Badal Kumar and Mohit Kumar alias Peter. Police took both into custody after the encounter. Following initial medical treatment under police supervision, they were referred to Sadar Hospital in Hazaribag for further treatment.
The third suspect reportedly used the cover of the forest to escape. Police teams are conducting raids in the area to locate and arrest him.

Weapons, ammunition and extortion material recovered
Police said two illegal firearms, live ammunition, spent cartridges, alleged extortion and threat-related pamphlets, and mobile phones were recovered from the encounter site.
The recovery is expected to form part of the investigation into the alleged activities of the gang and the purpose for which the suspects had entered the Giddi area.
Police officials said the operation was part of continued efforts to prevent organised criminal activities and maintain security in the region. Further legal proceedings are underway, while efforts to identify and apprehend the absconding suspect are continuing.
