Four Cyber Fraudsters Arrested in Deoghar

Deoghar police have arrested four cyber fraudsters as part of an ongoing crackdown against cyber crime in the district. The action was carried out on the instructions of Superintendent of Police Praveen Pushkar under the supervision of Senior Deputy Superintendent of Police Kailash Prasad Mahato.Police received confidential information that some suspected cyber criminals in the district were posing as customer care executives of Flipkart, Amazon, Airtel Payment Bank and PhonePe to cheat people online. During the investigation, it also came to light that the accused were using fake mobile numbers to lure people in the name of the PM Kisan scheme and loan assistance.Acting on the tip-off, police conducted raids on May 22, 2026, and arrested four accused. Five mobile phones, five SIM cards and one cloned SIM were recovered from their possession. Preliminary examination of the seized devices confirmed their involvement in cyber fraud activities.
The arrested accused have been identified as 21-year-old Suraj Kumar and 28-year-old Bittu Kumar, both residents of Ghutiya Bara Asahna under Mohanpur police station, 22-year-old Mustaqeem Ansari of Lakhibad under Palojori police station, and 29-year-old Nurul Ansari of Bara Dumaria under Masalia police station in Dumka district.According to police, the accused used to impersonate Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm customer care officials and lure victims with promises of cashback offers. They allegedly persuaded users to create PhonePe gift cards and later redeemed them to siphon off money. The gang also posed as Airtel Payment Bank officials and misled customers by claiming their cards had been blocked. They then duped victims in the name of reactivating the cards through the Airtel Thanks app.Police said Bittu Kumar had earlier been named in Deoghar Cyber Police Station case number 142/24.The raiding team included Santosh Kumar Mandal from Cyber Police Station, Salo Hembrom from Mohanpur police station and Sanjay Kumar from Palojori police station.
