Railways Tighten Vigil on Tatanagar Base Kitchens to Ensure Fresh Meals

Jamshedpur: In a bid to enhance onboard catering standards and ensure passengers receive fresh, hygienic, and quality meals during their journey, the Railways has intensified monitoring of base kitchens supplying food to trains passing through Tatanagar.
As part of the ongoing inspection drive, Anjani Rai, Assistant Commercial Manager of the South Eastern Railway zone, conducted a surprise late-evening inspection of two base kitchens located in Burmamines.

The visit focused on assessing cleanliness, food quality, and overall kitchen operations to ensure strict compliance with railway catering standards.

Acting on directives from the Railway Board, authorities have launched a special inspection campaign across various stations to monitor the functioning of base kitchens responsible for preparing and supplying meals to passengers.

The initiative aims to guarantee that travellers are served freshly prepared, nutritious, and hygienic food, minimizing complaints related to onboard catering services.

During the inspection, officials closely examined food preparation practices, storage conditions, kitchen equipment, and the handling of raw materials. The performance and hygiene practices of kitchen staff were also reviewed to ensure adherence to prescribed safety protocols.

Base kitchen operators were specifically instructed to maintain the highest standards of sanitation and cleanliness.

Railway officials also emphasized the need for regular pest-control measures to eliminate insects and ensure a contamination-free cooking environment.

Authorities made it clear that there would be no compromise on passenger health and food safety.
According to railway sources, several agencies have been entrusted with the responsibility of preparing and supplying meals and snacks to trains passing through Tatanagar junction.

The Railways is also keeping a close watch to ensure that food served onboard is prepared fresh in authorized base kitchens and that no externally sourced or stale food is supplied to passengers.

The Commercial and Catering Department of the Railways conducts such inspections periodically, and officials have affirmed that these monitoring exercises will continue in the future to further improve passenger amenities and uphold service quality across the network.
