Youth Shot Dead Near Jaipur Mode in Deoghar; Police Detain Two Suspects

Deoghar: Panic gripped the Jaipur Mode area under Mohanpur Police Station late Thursday night after a 26-year-old youth was shot dead by unidentified assailants. The deceased has been identified as Rajan Kumar Lall, a resident of Bihai village under Rikhia Police jurisdiction and son of Dinesh Lall.
While the body has been sent for post-mortem, police have reportedly detained two suspects for questioning.
Family Claims Targeted Attack at Tea Stall
According to a written complaint filed by the victim’s father, Dinesh Lall, Rajan left his home at approximately 5:30 PM on Thursday (April 23) to attend a wedding near Jaipur Mode.
The victim's brother-in-law, Rahul Kumar, who was present during the incident, stated that they had stopped at a tea stall near Jaipur Mode while en route to the wedding. Suddenly, a group of men arrived in a vehicle. Without provocation, one of the assailants fired a shot directly into Rajan's chest.
"As we raised an alarm, the attackers fled in their vehicle, leaving the pistol behind at the scene. We rushed Rajan to the Sadar Hospital, but he was declared dead upon arrival," Rahul stated.
Conflicting Theories: Robbery Gone Wrong?
While the family alleges a direct attack, unconfirmed sources suggest a different angle. Reports indicate that Rajan Lall may have been involved in an attempted carjacking of a Fortuner vehicle in the Jaipur Mode area. It is speculated that during the scuffle, an accomplice accidentally fired a shot that hit Rajan.
However, senior police officials have not yet confirmed this theory, stating that the investigation is active and covering all possible angles, including personal enmity and criminal intent.
Police Investigation and Forensics
?The Mohanpur Police have recovered the pistol abandoned by the attackers at the crime scene. A formal FIR has been lodged based on the father’s complaint, demanding strict action against the culprits.
Post-Mortem Details:
The post-mortem was conducted at Sadar Hospital. Initially, the bullet could not be located; however, after moving the body to the Operation Theatre (OT), surgeons successfully extracted a single bullet lodged in the spinal area just below the heart.
The police are currently verifying the statements of the two detainees and scanning CCTV footage from the Jaipur Mode area to identify the vehicle used by the assailants.
