Jharkhand Minister Assures Swift Medical Response After Stampede-Like Incident at Ranchi Stadium

Ranchi- Jharkhand Health Minister Irfan Ansari has assured the public that all necessary medical arrangements have been made after a stampede-like incident at the Jharkhand State Cricket Association International Stadium in Dhurwa left several spectators injured during the final of the Jharkhand Premier League on Tuesday evening.

In a post on X, Ansari said there was "no need to panic" as the Health Department had been placed on high alert and prompt treatment was being provided to all those injured.

He said instructions had been issued to the Civil Surgeon and other officials immediately after the incident. Ambulances reached the venue without delay, and nearby hospitals were alerted to ensure timely medical care for the injured.

The minister also said he was personally monitoring the situation while the Health Department remained fully engaged in relief and treatment efforts.

According to officials, several people sustained injuries in the incident, with three suffering serious injuries. A young man and two young women were admitted to Raj Hospital in Ranchi, where they are undergoing treatment.

Eyewitnesses said a large crowd had gathered at the stadium from the afternoon to watch the final match. Minutes before play began, heavy congestion developed at the West Gate as spectators queued to enter.

Slow entry procedures and delays in security checks reportedly led to long queues. As the crowd continued to swell, pushing and jostling broke out near the entrance, resulting in a stampede-like situation.

Tensions escalated further as frustrated spectators, upset over the delays, allegedly attempted to breach the security barricades. Parts of the West Gate and the barricading were damaged during the commotion.

Police and district administration officials rushed to the stadium after receiving information about the incident. Additional security personnel were deployed, and the situation was eventually brought under control.

The administration has ordered an inquiry to determine the circumstances that led to the incident. Security arrangements at the stadium have since been strengthened.

The episode has raised fresh concerns over crowd management and security planning during large sporting events in the state.
