
Deoghar. In a major action against cyber crime, Deoghar Police has achieved significant success. Acting on the directions of SP Saurabh, a team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Raja Kumar Mitra conducted raids on Tuesday and arrested ten cyber criminals.
Police had received secret information that some youths in different parts of the district were involved in online fraud by posing as fake customer care executives. Based on the input, a special team was formed and raids were conducted at multiple locations, leading to the arrest of ten accused.
During investigation, it was revealed that the accused used to impersonate officials of Flipkart, Amazon, Airtel Payment Bank and other services to trap innocent people. They also uploaded fake mobile numbers on Google as customer care contacts for PhonePe and other platforms to lure victims.
The accused used to offer cashback benefits and trick people into creating gift cards, which were later redeemed for cash. In Airtel Payment Bank-related frauds, they misled customers into blocking their cards through apps and then cheated them in the name of reactivating the same. They also sent fraudulent links in the name of PM Kisan scheme and credit card services to carry out scams.
Police have recovered 16 mobile phones and 15 SIM cards from the accused. Interrogation is ongoing and efforts are being made to trace their wider network.
The arrested accused include Ali Raza, 27, resident of Makarkenda under Palajori police station; Majruddin Ansari, 25, resident of Genuamarni under Jama police station in Dumka; Tanveer Ansari, 19, resident of Kapsa under Sarath police station; Rehan Ansari, 19, resident of Bedgawa Nawadih under Palajori police station; Muksed Ansari, 19, resident of Pindari under Sarath police station; Altaf Ansari, 30, resident of Pindari under Sarath police station; Md Majruddin Ansari, 36, resident of Chetanari under Pathraul police station; Md Iqbal Ansari, 31, resident of Chetanari under Pathraul police station; Md Ghulam Rasul, 27, resident of Chetanari under Pathraul police station; and Diwakar Yadav, 29, resident of Gidhaiya under Devipur police station.
The raid team included officials from Madhupur circle, Cyber Police Station, Pathraul and Sonaraythadi police stations along with armed forces. Police have appealed to the public not to trust unknown calls or links and to immediately inform the nearest police station about any suspicious activity.
