Ranchi: On average, 15 cases of crimes against women are reported every day in Jharkhand, meaning a woman becomes a victim of crime roughly every two hours. Police data highlights growing concerns over women’s safety in the state. In the past month alone, 459 cases have been registered, including 177 rape cases, 137 cases of abduction, 77 incidents of dowry harassment, and 68 cases of molestation.
The data shows that crimes against women are concentrated in cities and densely populated districts, with Ranchi topping the list with 57 cases, followed by Jamshedpur (31), Palamu (30), Garhwa (30), Bokaro (29), Dhanbad (27), Godda (27), Giridih (25), and Deoghar (23). Other districts also reported multiple cases: Pakur (18), Hazaribag (17), Sahebganj (15), Gumla (14), Ramgarh (14), Dumka (14), Latehar (13), Seraikela (12), Chaibasa (11), Jamtara (11), Chatra (11), Koderma (9), Simdega (8), Lohardaga (4), and Khunti (3).
While the numbers are higher in urban areas and districts with larger populations, officials warn this does not mean rural or smaller districts are necessarily safer.
