DC chairs high level review meeting over traffic chaos in capital, instructs to divide Ranchi in six zones and make short, medium and long term plans

Ranchi: Under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar Sinha an important meeting was organized on Tuesday to discuss ways for making necessary improvements in the city’s traffic system. In the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner instructed to improve the traffic system in compliance with the order of Honorable Governor and Chief Justice, Jharkhand High Court.

He instructed the officials concerned to improve the traffic system within a month in short, medium and long term. He directed to mark and remove unfit vehicles which are more than 15 years old. The Deputy Commissioner instructed the District Transport Officer to run a campaign regarding this. 

The Deputy Commissioner directed to control the traffic route and decide the zone of e-rickshaws, remove the handcart vendors within seven days and shift the vegetable market from Lalpur to Kokar Chowk. While removing the encroachment, the Deputy Commissioner also directed to get videography done. He directed the Sub-Divisional Officer to ensure that the stoppage of all school buses in Ranchi city should not be other than the pickup and dropping point. 

While forming a team of 5-5 people, the Deputy Commissioner directed to identify and remove illegal encroachments in Rajendra Chowk, High Court and Birsa Chowk. He said that the publicity materials installed in electric poles, publicity boards, and cycle stands should also be removed. 

Further, he instructed to shift New Market Auto Stand to Nagbaba Khatal so that there is no problem of jam. Instructing to mark the auto stand, instructions were given by the Deputy Commissioner not to give any new auto permits. He also instructed the traffic police to make a list of the equipment needed and give a list of the expenditure to be incurred in its purchase. 

The Deputy Commissioner sought information from the RCD for the widening of various roads and asked the RCD to make a proposal while giving necessary directions to the concerned officer. The Deputy Commissioner asked the concerned authorities for a proposal to widen the road by breaking the government building or boundary wall near New Market and elsewhere so that the problem of traffic could be overcome by widening the road by breaking it.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned officer to buy ten Boleros for law and order and other work. He directed to bring the slabs of drains near Kishori Yadav Chowk up to the road level. He directed the District Transport Officer to make the driving license of e-rickshaw drivers compulsory, so that persons below 18 years of age do not drive e-rickshaws. 

In order to free various square intersections from encroachment, instructions were given by the Deputy Commissioner to the traffic stations to distribute work and create additional traffic stations. The Deputy Commissioner instructed to improve the junction of important chowks like New Market Chowk, Jail Chowk, Lalpur Chowk, Sujata Chowk, Shaheed Chowk.

Along with this, instructions were given to make important square intersections left free and site selection for Argora auto stand, to organize footpath shopkeepers, to install pebar blocks for the ease of pedestrian citizens.
