Justice Sanjay Mishra takes oath as 14th Chief Justice of Jharkhand high court

Ranchi: Justice Sanjay Kumar Mishra on Monday took oath as the 14th Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court. In a function held at the Birsa Mandap of the Raj Bhawan Governor CP Radhakrishnan administered the oath to the new Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court.

On Friday, the Law Ministry issued a notification for the appointment of Justice Mishra as the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court. Chief Minister Hemant Soren, other ministers of the state, judges of the Jharkhand High Court, including Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, Justice S Chandrashekhar, Advocate General Rajiv Ranjan, Chairman of the State Bar Council Rajendra Krishna, elected members and other dignitaries were present in the swearing-in ceremony.

Later talking to the press he expressed his commitment to execution and hearing of old cases besides providing justice to the poor and backward classes. The Chief Justice said that more emphasis will be laid on execution and speedy hearing of old cases. “My priority will be to provide justice to the poor and the underprivileged.” Chief Justice Mishra described Jharkhand as his motherland and said that the judiciary is working hard for a transparent justice.

Justice Sanjay Mishra was born on 29.12.1961 to Markanda Mishra and Jyotirmayee Mishra in Bolangir of Odisha. He started his schooling at Tikra Upper Primary School. He passed out Higher Secondary Certificate Examination from Prithviraj High School, Bolangir in the year 1977. He completed B.Com (Hons) from Rajendra College, Bolangir in 1982 and completed M.Com from Delhi University in 1984. He went on to do his LLB from Law Faculty, Delhi University in 1987.

From March, 1988 joined the profession and started practice in Bolangir District Courts under the guidance of his father Markanda Mishra. Conducted several sessions cases, civil suits, civil appeals independently and acted as Honorary Law Lecturer of Bolangir Law College. He secured the 1st position in the Recruitment Examination for District Judges from Bar and on 16.2.1999 joined as Additional District & Sessions Judge, Jeypore.

Justice Mishra has also worked as District & Sessions Judge, Sundergarh, Dhenkanal, Special Judge (CBI), Bhubaneswar and joined as Registrar General of Orissa High Court. He Elevated as Judge of the Orissa High Court on 07.10.2009.
