Workshop organized for purpose of preparation of rules in the perspective of Jharkhand state under 'PESA Act 1996'

Ranchi: The PESA Act or Provisions of Panchayats (Extension to the Scheduled Areas) Act, 1996 is a law enacted by the Government of India to ensure self-governance through traditional gram sabhas for the people living
in the Scheduled Areas of India.

Additional Chief Secretary, Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department L Khyangate in the workshop said that in fact, the Scheduled Areas are the areas identified by the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution of India. It gives special powers to the Gram Sabhas in the Scheduled Areas, especially for the management of natural resources.

An Act to extend the provisions of Part IX of the Constitution relating to Panchayats to the Scheduled Areas. He said that the state of Jharkhand is also an important state falling in the Scheduled Area. 

Dr Sanjay Srivastava, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forestscum- Forest Force Chief, Jharkhand along with Kulwant Singh, IFS, in the workshop organized to give shape to the PESA Act of Jharkhand State Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Research and Training, Ranchi, NK Singh, IFS, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Development, Jharkhand, Ranchi, Diksha Kumari Prasad, IFS Chief Conservator of Forests, Training, Mahilong, Ranchi, Siddharth Tripathi, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests, Research, Ranchi and other senior officials of Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department along with various districts of the state representatives of non-governmental organizations mainly Rashmi Katyayan, Sanjay Basu Malik and Premshankar and representatives of  Jharkhand BiodiversityBoard were also present in the workshop.
