Jharkhand has tremendous potential in the area of tourism: Hemant

Ranchi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren said that there was tremendous potential in the state in the area of Tourism.

Speaking after an MoU was inked between ITDC and JTDC over the ownership of Hotel Ashoka he said that Jharkhand is mainly known for its mining and mines related activities but now efforts are being made so that the state can make a name for itself in the Tourism Sector. 

He said that on the initiative of the tourism department an MoU has been inked for 51 percent ownership in Hotel Ashoka which is a first step in developing Jharkhand as a tourism destination. He said that in the last 20 years some steps have been taken in the area of development but there are numerous untouched sectors where development was yet to reach. 

He said that Tourism had lots of potentials and has tremendous opportunities to create employment. He said that despite the program being a small one but it is a big step towards development. The Chief Minister said that the three acres of land was divided into three hands and now the state government has taken the first step while once the formation of Bihar Government is complete steps would be taken for complete ownership of the hotel.

He said that Jharkhand has now become a big shareholder of the Hotel Ashoka and with this many new areas of tourism had been opened. He said that his government was very sensitive to the property distribution between Bihar and Jharkhand. 

Secretary of the Tourism Department Pooja Singhal said that ITDC had a 51 percent stake in the Hotel and after the MoU  25,000 shared have been transferred to the state government which would be beneficial for 24 staff of the hotel.

Those who were present on the occasion included Chief Secretary Sukhdeo Singh and others.
