Actress Kanika Mann has spoken candidly about the pressure she faces from her family to have children, revealing in a conversation with actor Aasif Khan on Bigg Boss 20 that her relatives consider her “zero” until she becomes a mother.
Sharing the anecdote with a touch of humour, Kanika said her family’s expectations were closely tied to her having two or three children.
“My family members count me as zero. Until I give them two or three kids. Till then am zero,” she said.
Aasif related to her experience, revealing that his own mother frequently urges him to get married and have children. He said that although she once expressed her wishes directly, she now finds humorous ways to remind him that she wants to become a grandmother.
According to Aasif, his professional achievements often take a back seat when he speaks to his mother, who remains more interested in knowing when he will have a child.
Recalling an amusing incident involving a family trip, Aasif said they had booked tickets for Umrah, the Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca. Excited about the trip, he called out to his mother, announcing that he had good news. However, she immediately assumed that he was about to tell her he would soon become a father.
“Once, what happened was that we booked tickets for Umrah. I'm such an idiot. I shouted downstairs, ‘Mom, good news, good news!’ My mom stood up and said, ‘What are you talking about?’ I said, ‘We're going to Umrah.’ My mom sat down again and said, ‘I thought you were going to give me good news on the third day.’ I said, ‘Mom, think of something else other than this. There are a lot of things other than kids,’” he recalled.
Aasif shared another instance from a conversation with his mother shortly before entering the reality show.
“I called my mom a few days ago, before coming here. I said, ‘Mom, good news!’ She said, ‘I am happy now you will make me a grandmother.’ I said, ‘I am going to Bigg Boss, Mom. I am telling you, I'm going to Bigg Boss,’” he said.
Their conversation offered a humorous glimpse into the expectations that many adults face from their families regarding marriage and parenthood, even as they pursue professional goals.
Kanika is best known for playing the titular character in the television show ‘Guddan Tumse Na Ho Payega’. She has also participated in ‘Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 12’ and appeared in shows such as ‘Chand Jalne Laga’ and ‘Naagin 7’. Her film credits include Punjabi movies ‘Rocky Mental’ and ‘Daana Paani’.
Aasif, meanwhile, has earned recognition in the digital entertainment space through performances in popular series such as ‘Mirzapur’, ‘Panchayat’, ‘Paatal Lok’ and ‘Jamtara: Sabka Number Ayega’. He is particularly known for playing Babar in ‘Mirzapur’ and Ganesh in ‘Panchayat’.
