Los Angeles: Singer-actress Jennifer Lopez has opened up about the emotional challenge of preparing for life without her twins, admitting she never imagined a time when they would no longer be living at home.
The 56-year-old star shares twins Max and Emme with her former husband, Marc Anthony. As the 18-year-olds get ready to leave for college in August, Lopez said she has been struggling with the idea of an empty nest after spending nearly two decades raising them.
Speaking during an appearance on the TV show "Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen," Lopez reflected on the close bond she shares with her children.
"It's an emotional time. It's always been the three of us. People have come and gone in my life, but we've always had each other," she said, adding that she had never really thought about a future where her children would not be at home.
Lopez said she takes comfort in knowing that she has helped her children become independent individuals. "I've given them roots and wings," she remarked, expressing pride in the young adults they have become.
The actress also shared her thoughts on parenting, explaining that children often learn more from observing their parents' actions than from listening to advice. While she is eager to pass on every life lesson she has learned before they leave, she believes her daily behavior and work ethic have had the greatest influence on them.
According to Lopez, Max and Emme often insist they want to carve out their own identities rather than follow in her footsteps. However, she has noticed that they naturally adopt many of the positive values and habits she has tried to demonstrate throughout their upbringing.
Despite their desire to create their own paths, Lopez said she can see reflections of herself in their determination and character, something that makes her both proud and emotional.
The transition has been particularly difficult for the star, who revealed earlier this year that she had been "crying for two months" while preparing for her twins' graduation and the next chapter of their lives.
As Max and Emme get ready to begin their college journey, Lopez is facing a milestone familiar to many parents — learning to let go while celebrating the independence and success of their children.
