Mumbai: Punjabi star Sonam Bajwa is celebrating a proud moment as her 2023 Punjabi film Godday Godday Cha has been honored with the National Film Award for Best Punjabi Film.
Calling the recognition a "truly humbling experience," Bajwa took to social media to express her gratitude:
"So grateful for all the people who worked on this film and made it happen, and to the audiences for appreciating the film and our efforts. Receiving the National Film Award is truly a blessing and one of the biggest rewards. Thank you."
Bajwa played the role of Rani in the film, directed by Vijay Kumar Arora.
Actress Tania, who played the character "Nikko", also shared her emotions upon hearing the news. On Instagram, she wrote:
"Today I got the news that our film Godday Godday Chaa won the NATIONAL AWARD for Best Punjabi Film. Tears again… but these were tears of JOY! Immensely grateful. God has been really kind. Congratulations to the whole team."
Tania also spoke about her upcoming project Phaphey Kuttniyan, which she described as being very close to her heart.
"My next project, Phaphey Kuttniyan, is deeply special to me and I believe it’s my best work so far. I’m excited and hoping to return to work soon as things settle down."
Looking ahead, she added:
"I hope this next film receives even more love and appreciation for the performance—maybe even another National Award. I’m truly thankful for this recognition and committed to working hard for many more. I always welcome your love and support."
Godday Godday Cha tells the story of Rani (played by Bajwa), who is determined to take the women of her village to a wedding procession—a dream that seemed impossible for Punjabi women of that era.
